ERC WELCOMES BANGLADESH’S COMMITMENT TO ALLOW ROHINGYA CHILDREN TO GET A FORMAL EDUCATION

11:21 am Jan 31, 2020 592

The European Rohingya Council (ERC) warmly welcomes the announcement made by Bangladeshi government to offer Rohingya refugee children access to formal education and skill training.

The important and very positive commitment made by Bangladeshi government to allow Rohingya refugee children to go to formal education touches the hearts of Rohingya community around the world. Access to quality education is one of the urgent and most important needs of Rohingya community. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” Nelson Mandela once said. Allowing Rohingya children to get formal education could be one of gateways to many solutions faced by Rohingya.

The ERC has been campaigning for quality primary and higher education for Rohingya community for so long. Rohingya community has been denied access to higher education by Myanmar government. As a result, the community is suffering from higher illiteracy.

The courageous and bold move by Bangladeshi government to offer education to Rohingya refugee children becomes an example for those countries where Rohingya refugees are not allowed to go to formal education. We urge those countries to give opportunities to Rohingya children to go to class and actualize their dreams.

ERC highly appreciates Bangladesh’s efforts to solve Rohingya crisis. On behalf of Rohingya community, we would like to say, “Thank You”. We hope Bangladesh will continuously support Rohingya community until rights are restored in Myanmar, and Rohingya refugee are repatriated with full rights.
