Education Secretary, European Rohingya Council (ERC)
Mohammad Anas is a dedicated Rohingya nurse, student advocate, and community youth leader currently serving as the Education Secretary of the European Rohingya Council (ERC) and as the ERC Student Coordinator in Türkiye. His work bridges clinical healthcare, academic research, and youth empowerment to support Rohingya students and advocate for refugee health initiatives.
Early Life, Forced Displacement, and Higher Education
Mohammad Anas was born and raised in Maungdaw, Arakan State, Myanmar, where he graduated from Maungdaw High School in 2016. In 2017, following the military-led genocide against the Rohingya people, he was forced to flee his homeland.
Determined to resume his studies despite displacement, Anas sought opportunities for higher education. In 2019, with the facilitation and support of the European Rohingya Council, he was awarded the prestigious Türkiye Bursları (Turkish Government Scholarship). He enrolled at Gaziantep University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2024.
Professional Healthcare and ERC Student Leadership
Following his graduation in 2024, Anas entered the medical field and currently serves as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse at Medipol University Hospital in Istanbul.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Anas remains actively involved in community organization. Upon completing his degree, he was appointed as the ERC Student Coordinator in Türkiye. In this capacity, he mentors Rohingya students, helps facilitate access to educational opportunities, and strengthens support networks for Rohingya youth navigating university life abroad.
