Mawshafot Ullah
General Secretary & Education Secretary, European Rohingya Council (ERC)
Mawshafot Ullah is a Rohingya media professional, education advocate, and human rights campaigner currently serving as the General Secretary and Education Secretary of the European Rohingya Council (ERC). Recognized as the youngest General Secretary in the organization's history, his work focuses on Rohingya higher education access, international human rights advocacy, and youth leadership within the Rohingya diaspora.
Early Life, Forced Displacement, and Higher Education
Mawshafot Ullah was born and raised in Maungdaw, Arakan State, Myanmar. He completed his secondary education, graduating from Maungdaw High School in 2016. In 2017, following the military-led genocide against the Rohingya people, he was forced to flee his homeland.
Undeterred by displacement, he actively pursued opportunities for higher studies. In 2018, he became one of the first Rohingya to be awarded the prestigious Türkiye Bursları (Turkish Government Scholarship). He enrolled at Erciyes University in Türkiye, where he earned an Associate Degree in Journalism, laying the foundation for his work in media, communication, and human rights documentation.
Leadership and Service in the European Rohingya Council
Throughout his time in Türkiye, Mawshafot Ullah dedicated himself to student organization and institutional governance within the European Rohingya Council. He served as the ERC Student Coordinator from 2019 to 2021, providing vital guidance and support to displaced Rohingya youth navigating higher education.
Recognizing his leadership, the ERC appointed him Education Secretary in 2022, a role he held until 2025. During this period, he focused heavily on expanding academic opportunities, securing scholarships, and advocating for educational rights for refugee youth. In 2025, he made history within the organization by being named General Secretary of the ERC—becoming the youngest individual to hold the position—while continuing to serve concurrently as Education Secretary.
International Advocacy and Peace Studies
In his current leadership roles, Mawshafot Ullah engages in global advocacy, working alongside international institutions to champion Rohingya human rights, justice, and self-determination.
Building on his journalistic background and extensive leadership experience, he is currently preparing to begin a Master’s degree in Conflict, Peace, and Security. Through his ongoing studies and executive duties at the ERC, Mawshafot Ullah remains committed to advancing peacebuilding strategies, systemic rights advocacy, and empowerment for the Rohingya people.
