Who are the Rohingyas

The Rohingya are one of the most persecuted communities in the world (Ref: United Nation). According to historians and scholars, Rohingya have been living in Arakan (which is now part of Modern day Myanmar) since many centuries ago. In addition, Rohingya have been officially recognized as ethnic minority and citizen by four successive governments of Myanmar after independent from British. However, after decades of oppression and marginalization since 1962 military coup, the infamous discriminatory 1982 citizenship law stripped away the ethnic and citizenship rights of more than a million Rohingya; therefore, become officially stateless in their own ancestral land.
