The European Rohingya Council (ERC) would like to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for the historic achievements in this symbolic election.
While the disenfranchisement and suppression of Rohingya continue in Myanmar, the 2020 U.S. election with a record-breaking number of ballots amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the deep-rooted racial division is a symbol and triumph of democracy.
As Myanmar goes into its general election undemocratically on November 8 depriving the Rohingya community of the freedom of expression and participation in the election, Rohingya who are resettled and who call the U.S. their home cast their ballots freely and equally.
As the most powerful nation in the world, the U.S. remains a beacon of hope for persecuted communities including the Rohingya people. We continue to hope the U.S. strongly standing up against human rights abuses in Myanmar and across the world, and providing supports to the persecuted communities.
